 About the Layout

We know how it goes. We start with a model. Sometimes a starter set. Sometimes a locomotive. It doesn't matter the scale. But the minute we hold that model in our hands, a flurry of ideas pop into our heads of all the different layouts to make! Whether it is American or European styled, we ask ourselves so many questions. What era? What time of year? What motive power? And then we start the track plan. And then... we empty our bank accounts...(!)

But somewhere along the way you find something that truly inspires you. In my case, the inspiration came from my very first visit to the Strasburg Railroad in 2016. I really thought that I would just be spending some time at some random railroad but I was greatly mistaken. Between the friendly and conversational workers, the wonderful gift shops, the history in motion, and the powerful steam locomotives moving as if time had stopped many years ago; the Strasburg Railroad completely mesmerized me. It really is that Road to Paradise!

The inspiration was found! The railroad immediately became one of my favorite places in the world, so the idea soon came to mind to have a little bit of Strasburg in my own home. Seeing as how one can not simply go to the store and buy a 30,000 pound steam locomotive... model trains soon became the go-to!

And after a few years of building, here we are at a small and stylized modular layout loosely based upon the Strasburg Railroad. The main focus of the layout is mostly the yard/East Strasburg Station where every Strasburg journey begins. I do wish to expand the layout further to at least go up to Cherry Hill, but we will see how much space I have! I hope you all enjoy looking through the blog and joining me on my journey as this layout is far from done. There are so many more details to add, and with Lionel recently showing an interest in expanding their Strasburg line, only time will tell what great additions I can add to the collection/layout. Thank you for joining me this far, and remember to check back frequently as we never know what lays around the bend!
